Under 12's v Moor Row 17/09/11
Encouraged by the win against Whitehaven Amatuers the previous week the team were confident going into the game against Moor Row. Following very heavy rain the pitch was very, very heavy and a large physical Moor Row side were always going to make the most of the conditions.
Cockermouth started brightly and the pace of Joe McCartney together with some accurate through balls from Reece Sloan and Ryan Scott were soon proving problems for Moor Row.
After having a goal ruled out for off-side Cockermouth drew first blood when a telling through ball found Arron Porterhouse who calmly lobbed the advancing Moor Row keeper to claim his second goal of what is becoming an impressive start to the season for the player. Cockermouth repeated the through ball tactic later in the half - this time Joe McCartney racing through to score Cockermouth's second.
That spurred on Moor Row and Cockermouth had to withstand some good Moor Row play with Jordan Winthrop making some telling saves.
This pressure eventually paid off and just before half-time Moor Row scored twice in quick sucesssion to ensure they drew level at the break.
In the second half the bigger Moor Row players made lighter work of what had become a muddy bog of a pitch and Cockermouth found it hard to get hold of the ball and break out from defence. Dispite some excellent defending by Kieran Bertram, Bradley Hewitt (playing his best game for Cockermouth in the past two years), Lloyd Wise and Aiden White, Moor Row scored a lucky third following a corner.
Cockermouth had chances to draw level towards the end of the match but could not take them.
So a first league defeat but promising signs that players are working together - some in different positions, working hard for each other and playing as a team.
What is important is remaining focussed for the whole match and concentrating for the whole 60 minutes.
Final Score
