Penrith AFC 2 Cockermouth 4

on Sun, 11/27/2011 - 20:32

Amazing Comeback from the under tens, after going two 2-0 behind in the first half playing against a strong wind the team rallied at half time.

Penrith deserved their lead with a great long range effort and a goal directfrom a corner which zipped low through the crowded area into the back of the net. Penrith were a strong side and we hung on at times to keep it down to 2-0, the crossbar saving us on one occasion.

Instead of trying to pepper the Penrith goal with the wind behind us in the second half with long range efforts we played some great counter attacking football, the first goal back was credited to Alex as his powerful freekick spun up off a defender and ended up in the back of the net. This gave us the confidence to press forward and the second soon followed when Evan's corner kick from the left sailed into the top corner to make it 2-2.

At the back Harry, Luke and Alex stopped almost every attack and when Penrith did get through Emily made two fantastic saves to keep us in the game. With Max, Owain and Tom working tirelessly in midfield we constantly hit the home side on the break, a great one-two between Owain and Evan ended with Owain just shooting wide, and Max broke away down the left to force a corner.

Going into the last ten minutes the game swung from end to end, Penrith went close with a couple of shots which went wide and we had to defend a number of corners before Evan made it 3-2 when Max played a quick ball through to him and he finished low into the bottom corner.

Penrith piled on more pressure and a quick clearance from Owain released Evan one on one with the last defender, he glided past and hit a rocket of a shot into the net past the keeper!

Team: Emily, Harry, Alex, Luke, Max, Owain, Tom, Evan .

Everyone took a turn as sub and the team worked hard for each other, playing some quick counter atacking football. Harry, Alex and Luke pushed forward when they could to support the midfield who all tracked back when we lost the ball.
