Penrith & District Youth league Cup

11th March 2012 Keswick Greens 0 Cockermouth 0

( 1-3 on penalties)

Cockermouth hung on to win on penalties with the match goalless after extra time of this Penrith & District league cup tie.

Keswick dominated possession and struck the post and bar on several occasions, as Cockermouth dug in deep to keep them out.

It was a great team effort with every single player in the squad working hard to deny the Greens, the away side tried to counter attack on the break, but found it hard to open up the league leaders defence to create a clear chance.

on Mon, 02/27/2012 - 19:29

Penrith deserved the win as they took their chances and were solid in defence, with player of match Poppy Scholefield and Jacob Matthews scoring the goals.

Cockermouth went close in the first half when Adam Ashfield and Max Cochrane played a quick short corner which led to Adam firing a left foot shoot just wide.

Penrith defended well, making some great blocks and their quick counter attacks often caught Cockermouth short in defence, leaving Emily Carruthers to keep the score down with some great saves.

Good effort by the team and the match was played in good spirit.

Cockermouth took an early lead when a low cross from the left by Evan Brelsford found its way into the net. Brelsford then got his second with a neat finish after a clever through ball from left back Luke Harrison. The game had a nice flow from end to end with Alex Parr outstanding in central defence for the home side.

Peter Rawlinson, Owain Reed and Max Cochrane played some neat football in midfield, always looking for passes in behind the Castletown defence.

In the second half Castletown got the upper hand and put

Great game and well done to all players who braved the snow, sleet, hail, wind and rain! Cockermouth went into an early lead when Harry finished a great run down the left with a cross for Max to arive late into trhe box and sidefoot home his first goal this season.

The second goal quickly followed when Evan picked the ball up on the left and wriggled through the Penrith defence before blasting the ball past the goalkeeper.

Cockermouth 4 Bigrigg 0 (3/12/11}

on Sat, 12/03/2011 - 22:11

Brilliant performance today against a very strong Bigrigg side.

Early goal from Evan was a neat finish on the half volley, before Owain made it two nil with a perfect long range shot into the top corner.

In the second half Bigrigg put us under a lot of pressure and we worked hard to defend the lead. The game was made safe when Evan was tripped in the box and smashed the penalty in before setting up Jack for the fourth with a cool sidefoot finish.

Team:
Matty – Not much to do but stayed alert and organised the defence.
Owain – Calm as usual at right back and excellent goal.
Tom M – Nothing

Penrith AFC 2 Cockermouth 4

on Sun, 11/27/2011 - 20:32

Amazing Comeback from the under tens, after going two 2-0 behind in the first half playing against a strong wind the team rallied at half time.

Penrith deserved their lead with a great long range effort and a goal directfrom a corner which zipped low through the crowded area into the back of the net. Penrith were a strong side and we hung on at times to keep it down to 2-0, the crossbar saving us on one occasion.

Instead of trying to pepper the Penrith goal with the wind behind us in the second half with long range efforts we played some great counter attacking football, the first goal back

Brilliant game to watch, end to end attacking, slick passing moves and a lot of goalmouth action.

After going behind to a well taken goal from the edge of the box we battled back to 1-1 when a quick passing move down the right involving Alex and Peter which ended with Tom getting the final touch over the line after a lob over the keeper. We then started putting pressure on Castletown’s goal with Shots from Evan,Harry, Peter and Owain all going close.

The second half was much the same with some great football played by both teams, Luke

Cleator Moor Tournament 28 May 2011

on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 21:23

Squad: Owain Reed, Tom McFadyen, Alex Parr, Sam Wedgwood, Jack Lewis, Tom Wilson, James Trafford, Evan Brelsford.

The weather was poor but the performance, commitment and attitude of the squad was excellent.

We were drawn in a very tough group opening against the previous years winners Furness Cavaliers. After a first minute goal conceded from an ufortunate free kick we fought back and earned a deserved 1-1 draw thanks to Sam diverting a log range shot by James into the oppositions net. fantastic commitment shown by the boys to fight back.

Second game against Maryport Monsters saw us draw 1-1
